The wait is over, clubs are here.
This past weekend was Thanksgiving in the United States and our team had some time to reflect about our journey over the last 4 months. There were so many milestones that we were able to accomplish. Selling out our mint, a 1ETH floor, an RKL beanie on ESPN, 10,000ETH+ in trading value and so much more. None of this would have been possible without all of you! We are all extremely grateful to the whole Kong community. You’ve given us the opportunity to build something really huge. One thing that can’t be understated is the trust and patience you’ve had. While we have been building, you all have stood by us time and time again.
With Thanksgiving behind us, we’ve officially entered the holiday season and we’re ready to start sharing a couple of things we’ve been working on over the last couple of months.
The wait is over, it’s finally showtime.

Before we begin, we wanted to recognize the community activity that has evolved around the prospect of RKL Clubs. Floyd’s list of unofficial clubs has grown to 30+ active clubs. The OG RKL Klubs discord has organized zoom calls to help club owners discuss the future of clubs. The RumbleBadBoyz wrote and published a 10-page document on their ideas for RKL clubs. We’ve seen Logos, Stadiums, Merch, Songs and more all being spun up. We couldn’t be happier to see the community all coming together around one vision!
While the first 10,000 genesis Kongs have been released, it’s time for the next piece of the RKL to enter into the ecosystem. What would be any league without a club or team to be a part of!?
Clubs are the fabric of the official Rumble Kong League. As mentioned in the Kongpaper, Clubs will be a completely separate NFT. They will be owned by the individual, DAO, or corporation that chooses to own the NFT. No part of the club will be owned by the RKL. Just like your Kongs, a club owner has full rights to their club’s image and brand. They will be able to find sponsors, produce merchandise or monetize their brand and image in any way they desire. The sky is truly the limit.
Clubs are the only way to play in the official Rumble Kong League. (There will be unofficial tournament play and “pick-up” games for teams and Kongs to play in outside the official league which will be open to Kongs and other non-Kong NFTs).
We made the decision to make RKL:Clubs acquired through ETH only, in the future, we will enable community features that might have less functionality, but give anyone the opportunity to create their brand. As we mentioned before, we are building an ecosystem for millions of players, this is a core part of it.
The Basics of the Official Rumble Kong League
In our Kongpaper we’ve shown a pyramid-shaped image which has been widely analyzed to get more info on clubs, in the end, we felt that a linear approach makes it easier to keep an overview of the rank of each individual club and follow simple logic.
Just like real-world Basketball, the RKL will consist of many different types of play.
Casual Play - Any Kong (whether genesis or not) and select PFP avatars
Tournaments - One-off events that will have requirements to enter. For example, you might need a team of 3 Monk Robe Kongs or a rating below 200 in order to participate.
Official Competitive League - Comprised of 300 Clubs with rosters of up to 30 Kongs a piece. These 300 Clubs will be broken up into 10 Divisions. All clubs will play through their season culminating in an RKL champion being crowned, and clubs being relegated/promoted.
Club NFT Features:
Unlike most NFTs that exist, our Clubs need to be extremely flexible and require unique features to allow for our communities to build brands that reflect their values. We’ll break these features into two sections:
NFT Aesthetic Features
We’ll launch the Club NFTs with a couple of key features. Unlike traditional NFT, our Club NFTs will be modular to allow for the appropriate customization in creating a great brand. In particular
Social Media Profiles: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, E-mail, Website
will all be modular and the Club owners will be able to change them directly on the RKL website.
The Club Logo and Colors will directly change the image of the NFT, while the Name, History and Social Media profiles will be reflected in the descriptions. Any change that occurs to the club NFT will update the metadata and propagate to OpenSea and other NFT marketplace pages.
Of course, you will see club colors and logos being represented inside the game to rep your colors.
While Kongs have unique looks, we consider their visual attributes to represent them off-court and outside a match, think in a press conference. While playing in leather jackets looks very cool, it is impractical in actual gameplay, and that's where jerseys come into play.
Each Club will have the possibility to choose their own Jersey which will represent their team on the court. We’ve already seen fantastic jersey’s being created and are excited to see them in game! Some of our favorites are linked below!
During gameplay, the player and viewer will be able to clearly distinguish both teams from each other through their jersey colors, as well as displayed logos / Kongs right inside the UI.
NFT Ownership Features
The holder of the NFT will be the `Owner`. All league payouts will be sent to the `Owner` of the Club NFT. However we understand that the owner of a club might not be actively managing the club; therefore, the NFT will allow its owner to delegate an `Acting Owner` through our website. The `Owner` can set a league winnings split between the `Acting Owner` and themselves.
There are 3 modes of club management.
Pure Club `Owner` management.
Pure `Acting Owner` club management.
Club `Owner` approves the decisions of his `Acting Owner`.
For the rest of this post, I will refer to the joint entity of `Owner` and `Acting Owner` as `Club Management`
How a Kong joins a Club
A Kong owner may express interest in joining a club. That proposal will be sent to `Club Management`. Club Management can review the proposal and accept or decline it. The only piece of a contract that the Club’s NFT can manage is offering the Kong a piece of the league winnings split (similar to the `Acting Owner`).
We expect that a Kong may be signed by clubs with other forms of compensation (fiat/crypto salary, ownership percentage, IRL benefits), however these portions of the compensation will have to be managed by the two parties outside of the RKL ecosystem.
Once a Kong is signed to a team, the Club’s metadata will update allowing the NFT’s metadata to have an up to date current team roster.
Now that you know how the clubs will work and the features that we packed into our Clubs NFTs. I’m sure the only question on your mind is: “how do I get a club?”. We’ve had many meetings and long discussions about how to do this properly. We want to be fair to everyone in the Kong community while making sure that our Club owners are people who want to add to our ecosystem.
Clubs will be distributed in waves of Dutch Auctions. Our first wave will have a starting bid price equal to the Kong floor price when the auction begins.
We will release Club NFTs in waves, in a Dutch Auction model. A dutch auction allows a user to bid any amount of ETH. At the end of the auction duration, the winning bids will pay the lowest winning bid amount. For example, if you bid 100ETH and the 20th highest bid was for 8ETH, you and all winning participants will only pay 8ETH. (even though you bid 100).
To celebrate our existing Kong community that allowed us to get this far, only wallets that contain a Kong will be able to bid.
As we mentioned at the top of this article, the initiative taken by unofficial club owners is what makes the RKL truly special and as a thank you we will be giving away TWO RKL CLUB NFTs to 2 of the clubs who are on rumbleclubs.xyz* as of today. These will be randomly distributed (more info to come).
*We have removed a couple of the clubs on the list as they have not shown any activity outside of joining. The official list of clubs eligible are shown at the bottom of the article.
Once again, we want to shout out Floyd (@JefferyTezos) for all his work on the rumbleclubs.xyz page!
The next big step in the RKL ecosystem is here! We’re extremely excited to remove a lot of uncertainty for club owners trying to build their brands. The team has spent months iterating on clubs and making sure that they're as flexible and intuitive as they have to be.
The Club NFTs are aesthetically modular both in their appearance and the metadata.
Rosters will be managed and remain up to date within the club NFT’s metadata
Clubs allow for an Acting Owner and natively split league earnings between the Club Management
Clubs will be released in waves of dutch auctions.
We know we just threw a ton of information at you and we’re sure you have some questions. The team will be hosting a Twitter Spaces tomorrow 12/2 4pm ET, 1pm PT, 9pm UTC, 10pm CET after the publishing of this to answer any and all questions about Clubs.
